When trying to conceive we need to be in the best state of physical and mental health. A study conducted by the University of Surrey showed that couples with a previous history of infertility who made changes in their lifestyle, diet and took nutritional supplements had an 80 percent success rate. So sometimes it is important to get back to basics with natural ways to boost fertility.
1) Reduce Stress
High levels of stress can reap havoc with the subtle hormonal balance by increasing levels of the stress hormone cortisol in our bodies, which can negatively impact fertility. Taking out time to relax and de-stress is very important.
2) Follow a Healthy Diet
Certain vitamins, minerals and healthy fats are essential for conception. In particular research has shown that Vitamin B, Zinc and a diet rich in Omega 3 fats is very beneficial for balancing hormones. We can get this through eating oily fish, flax or chia seeds or taking a fish oil supplements. Avoiding caffeine, sugar, alcohol, cigarettes and processed foods is also recommended.
Our bodies are created to be active every day but so many of us don’t even come close to achieving this. Regular exercise can help get the body back into balance.
4) Try Complementary Therapies
Reflexology and Acupuncture are very popular fertility treatments and may help to balance the body and reduce stress.
Key Reflexology Points
In treating infertility with reflexology special attention is paid to following reflex points:
This is the master gland and produces many of the hormones regulating the menstrual cycle.
An over/under active thyroid function can impact fertility.
Particularly if the client is stressed. See how reflexology can relieve stress here.
Ovary – stimulates the gland to promote ovulation and balance hormones
Fallopian tubes – stimulate the points to release any blockages that may exist
Uterus – to increase the blood circulation and promote normal functioning
