A good night’s sleep is fundamental to good health and well-being. It’s when we are in a state of deep relaxation that vital processes are taking place to repair cells, regenerate tissues and renew our bodies.
You know how you tend to have dark circles or puffy eyes following a bad night’s sleep? Well that’s just scratching the surface with the effects continued poor sleep has on your body. Poor sleep often results in a lower immune system so you are more likely to catch all the coughs and colds going around. A continued lack of sleep is thought to increase your risk of getting heart disease and diabetes and research shows it also has a negative impact on fertility.
In a nutshell, if you don’t snooze you lose so here is an essential oil blend to help you get your beauty sleep.
Oil Burner / Diffuser Blend
This snoozy blend contains a mix of three essential oils:
- Lavender is well known for its soporific effects; it induces drowsiness and sleep. A small study conducted at the University of Southampton showed that 20% of attendees slept better in a room that was scented with lavender essential oil.
- Sweet and herbaceous Marjoram is also a wonderful natural sedative.
- Frankincense has a deepening effect on the breath encouraging fresh oxygen to replenish your body while you sleep.
To create this blend, simply add the following with a little warm water to your oil burner or add them to your diffuser:
2 drops Lavender
2 drops Sweet Marjoram
3 drops Frankincense
You could use this in your bedroom and relax for about 30 minutes before you are going to go to sleep and have sweet dreams…
CAUTION: Marjoram oil is not suitable if you are pregnant. Remember to turn off your diffuser or blow out the candle of your oil burner before you fall asleep!
