Anxiety is a completely normal emotion and is characterised by the feeling of worry, nervousness or unease about something with an uncertain outcome. Anxiety becomes an issue when the worry becomes excessive about a number of different events and is associated with heightened tension. This can be described as generalised anxiety disorder.
According to the NICE guidelines, which provide national guidance and advice to improve health and social care in the UK, people with generalised anxiety disorder may also feel irritable and have physical symptoms e.g. restlessness, tiredness, muscle tenseness and insomnia.
