5 Ways to Keep Your Spirits Up this Autumn

Autumn is a busy time for Coach-Therapists like me. We get more phone calls…more clients and longer waiting lists. With temperatures declining and shorter days, autumn brings about mixed feelings for people.

Some already dread the approach of Christmas…for fear of being alone. Some resent the clock going backwards because it means it’s night time by 5pm. So we start putting the heating on…we cook the first soups and we get the first colds and flus of the school year.

So how can you keep your spirits (and your immune system!) up in this season of autumn?

Here are 5 strategies for you:

1. Change your point of view

Like everything else in life, there are 2 ways to look at things. You can choose to focus on the emptiness or the fullness of a glass half full. So let’s focus on the fullness…shall we? Autumn is actually one of my favourite seasons…maybe because I was born in it or because it’s…well… magnificent.

With all the trees turning red, yellow and orange we get the opportunity to have the most divine walks in the park or in the woods. Plus there is a cosiness to autumn that is highly appealing: cuddling underneath a blanket watching TV, drinking more herbal tea and feeling ok about eating more!

2. Start fresh

If September is the new January, then autumn is the new spring! This beautiful season of autumn holds so many promises. It gives the opportunity to make a fresh start before the New Year. When was the last time you asked yourself what your Desires were?

How long have you been talking about changing jobs, starting a business or signing up for a dance class? Now is a perfect time to get your ass in gear.

3. Desire Map

If you haven’t already been introduced to the life-changing Desire Map book and philosophy (by Danielle Laporte), now is the time to get your hands on it. If you are not sure about what you actually want out of life or how you are going to go about fulfilling your vision, the Desire Map is for you.

In a nutshell, it’s about getting clear on how you want to feel and getting clear on what’s gonna help you feel that way. It’s about accepting who you are and giving yourself permission to go for your dream life. Game changer. 4. Uplevel your self-care                                                                                                                                  

What do you need to do to feel good in your body? Sleep more? Take vitamins every morning? Paint your nails maybe? The best way to prevent dis-ease in your mind and your body is to look after yourself as if you were a Queen. You are a Queen by the way.

So treat yourself to a spa, a massage in your own home or a day off. You’ll feel so much better for it and your whole family will benefit from you feeling good.

5. Invest in your personal development

Whether you hire a Coach, a therapist, a yoga teacher or a cleaner, the question to ask yourself is: “Who else do I need on my Success Team?” We all need help. No doubt about that. However, not all of us give ourselves the permission to ask for it. So we suffer in silence and we get on with life.

However, isn’t feeling good worth the expense of asking for support or hiring someone to support us? In my experience, it is…that’s why I often find myself with all of the above on my own Success Team! Plus a babysitter of course! 🙂

We all feel a little bit more vulnerable at the approach of winter. You can choose to make this autumn extra special for yourself this time. You get to create your life by design. And what a better time than Now…
